LATCH is an acronym that stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. The LATCH System was created to make installing car seats and keeping them safely secured in your vehicle as simple as possible. The LATCH System includes anchors in the back seat of your car because the back seat is the safest place for kids under the age of 13. How It Works

Your child’s car seat includes lower anchor connectors, which should be secured to the lower anchors in the back seat of your vehicle. They are usually found in the space where your cushions meet. This system is used as an alternative to fastening your car seat with your vehicle’s seat belt. You don’t need to do both. Top Tether

If you have a forward-facing car seat, you should also secure it to the top anchor of the system. Your car seat should have a tether that can be attached to the anchor.
